Resumo: Studies on women and gender come, since the outbreak of the feminist movement in its second wave, winning eco in various branches of knowledge, especially in Psychology and Social Sciences. In parallel, in actuality, an interdisciplinary vision has been required When looking at the object family, posing new approaches and approaches. In this perspective, this study located in the search in the Family Social Science online, you want to draw a comparison between married and unmarried women , middle-class, career professionals in order to study and analyze the social representations (SRs) and meanings attributed by these the categories family and work. Specifically, we sought to identify and analyze the social representations about their identities , analyze how articulate family and work, as well as knowing how featuring 'be a professional career’. Breaks the assumption that relational setting appears as an important variable in the construction of identities and representations. Married six women and five single women aged between 31 and 46 years with at least college level, with or without children, women living with a partner/partner/spouse being placed in the first group were interviewed and those in the second living alone, with family or friends. The sample is characterized as non- probabilistic judgment, since the respondents are chosen at the discretion of the researcher as potential informants from the group if you want to know, being selected by the finding of the present inclusion criteria previously listed. The data collection instrument consisted of a semi structured interview containing identifying information and demographic data and issues concerning the identities and representations in accordance with the objectives to be achieved. The theoretical framework draws on concepts that underlie the discussion on the role of women in the working world, from the perspective of feminist poststructuralist approaches and theories about the meanings of work as well as the main challenges that the literature points to the progression of women in positions of prestige, especially those married with children. Concerning the theory of RS, the main theoretical contributions are used Moscovici (1978) and Jodelet (1989), in the field of procedural approach of social representations. Data were analyzed by using the software IRAMUTEQ (2013) and discourse analysis, in accordance with the literature. The results suggest that family configuration/marital status, as a variable in the construction of representations and identities of the women interviewed. Met distinctions between representations of Si (Career Woman) and representations of the ingroup (married and unmarried women) and between these two and the out group (Men). In the first listed are aspects such as overload, lack of time and responsibilities and second, respectively, to preserve the legend, and the division of tasks pertaining to the care and, at last, the poor perception of their rights as women and citizens. Less surprisingly, the women interviewed also demonstrate experience, as reported in the literature, obstacles to their integration in productive contexts of high complexity, often by function overloading.
