Resumo: This study attempted to know the understanding of the sexuality approach both in the family and in the institution in which the student of a mixed boarding school (parochial/educational) has from his perspective and experience, taking into account the context and its influence over the development of the young person, from 15 to 24 years of age. The theoretical approach was the bio-ecological theory of Bronfenbrenner. The instruments used were: observation “in loco”, interviews with members of the group SOS Singles, and semi-structured questionnaires for the youth, his father, his mother, the school administration and deans. One hundred young people participated in the study, and from these, 36 were interviewed, and 64 answered the questionnaire. In addition, all the school administration and deans available on the boarding school participated, as well as 40 fathers and 40 mothers answered questionnaires separately. The analysis is anchored in the following problems found from the instruments used: reasons for which the young persons are in the boarding school; which were their first impressions; how they feel currently; how is the life in the boarding school; how they perceive the rules; which rules are difficult to be carried out; if they already broke any rule; if they sometime broke the rules concerning courtship and which feelings prevailed; which were the first physical changes that indicated that they were no longer children; with whom they shared these changes; the family approach the subject of sexuality; how the subject is discussed in the family; the boarding school approach the subject; how the boarding school has discussed about the subject; if the participants already had sexual intercourse prior to coming to the boarding school, or if they had sexual intercourse in the boarding school, and which are the prevailing feelings; if the deans had an academic preparation to work on the area they act; if the administration considers that the rules are up to date; what is sexuality; how the programs on education and sexual orientation are developed, and their relationship with the young people; is the administration capable to answer about the subject; why the parents brought their children to the mixed parochial boarding school; how is the subject of sexuality approached in the family; how the father talks about sexual intercourse with his son and with his daughter; how the mother talks about sexual intercourse with her son and with her daughter; if the parents know the sexual life of their children. It is concluded that there is an agreement in what the students said about the administration, deans and parents: nobody talks about sexuality. The discoveries in this area have been with friends, without the family and institution mediation and their principles and values. Some participants have an active sexual life, in unsuitable places and without consideration to the consequences.
