Resumo: The socio-environmental crisis is a challenge for health professionals due to the effects of environmental changes on the health of the population. The way the professional takes care of this environment depends on the environmental perception that it has of it. This is a descriptive case study with a qualitative, cross-sectional approach. General objective: To identify and analyze how the Nursing graduates of the Catholic University of Salvador perceive the connection between the environment and the health of the population. The study was carried out at a University of Salvador - Bahia, with 21 trainees from the nursing course. Observations and interviews were used as instruments of collection. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed based on the methodological framework of Content Analysis proposed by Bardin. The predominant environmental perception is reductionist, and although the trainees perceive the environment as a propagator of diseases, they can not mention any kind of care regarding the concrete actions of protection, conservation and zeal with the environment. Students realize that their training is more geared towards curative care, not feeling prepared to work with communities towards health promotion and prevention, even going in the opposite direction to the PPC course. It is recommended to review teaching practices regarding the inclusion of the environmental dimension in classrooms, in the stages, in extension activities and in interdisciplinary activities. The sensitization / action of the students and teachers would allow a more comprehensive perception of the environment, including the need to care for it, favoring care practices in the construction of healthier environments
