A atuação de Cosme de Farias na liga da educação para erradicação do analfabetismo em Salvador de 1910 a 1920

Abstract

This article has as its theme the role of Cosme de Farias in the League of Bahia against illiteracy in Salvador. Thus, the objective is to highlight the importance of Cosme de Farias in the literacy process of poor Bahians during the old Republic. The methodology adopted is based on a literature review of the literature, with a qualitative approach and descriptive character, based on a theoretical survey of authors who address the topic under study. Thus, it is understood that it is undeniable the importance of Cosme de Farias as one of the main promoters of the improvements and possible eradication of illiteracy in Salvador, in the beginning of the 20th century. It is also important to note that the data in relation to the control of illiteracy through the ABC letter method applied in the Old Republic in Salvador show alterations in the illiteracy rates of most of the children under 7 to 11 years old at school age.
