Resumo: Jaccoud arthropathy (AJ) is a chronic, progressive polyarthritis characterized by non-erosive deformities, ulnar deviation of the fingers in the metacarpophalangeal joints, and when the thumb is affected, a Z deformity is observed. Despite the angular changes in the hands, their manifestations are reversible. The prevalence of people with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) who develop into AJ ranges from 3 to 5% of the population. It is not known whether the activities of daily living and the excessive joint load in the dominant hand can cause a greater joint deformity in patients with AJ. Objective: to evaluate whether the dominance of hand use would influence the degree of deformity and joint amplitude in patients with AJ associated with SLE. Methods: cross-sectional study. The instruments used were: JAMAR® manual analog hydraulic dynamometer; the Inches® brand finger goniometer and the Carci® brand universal goniometer. Results: Conclusion: People with AJ associated with SLE were more likely to experience deformation in the dominant hand and in individuals who performed high manual activities
