Resumo: | Human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) infection occurs thousands of years ago. This virus is endemic in several regions of the world. In Brazil, it is present in all states, with varying prevalences, estimated around 2.5 million infected. Genetic and immunological factors of the host are mainly responsible for the associated clinical manifestations. HTLV-associated myelopathy (HAM / TSP) and adult T-cell leukemia / lymphoma (ATLL) are the first diseases associated with this retrovirus. Subsequently, numerous other diseases have been correlated with this virus. Objective: To describe HTLV-1 and its symptomatology. Methodology: Research of character of integrative review of literature, through articles collected in the Scielo database. Results: Studies have shown that HTLV infection occurs for years, but its pathogenesis is recent. And its associated clinical manifestations can be divided into three categories: neoplastic, inflammatory and infectious. FINAL REMARKS: The main symptomatologies of HTLV-1 virus are HTLV-associated myelopathy (HAM / TSP) and adult T-cell leukemia / lymphoma (ATLL) |
