In view of the different technologies used for therapeutic treatment in the management of patients with chronic wounds, the care of nurses faces issues such as knowledge, hegemony of medical work, still present in the hospital environment, and the autonomy of this professional in the choice of the treatment for each wound. OBJECTIVE: Identify the performance of the nurse in the treatment of the individual with chronic wound, and the factors that influence the practice of this professional in the hospital scope. METHODOLOGY: This article is an integrative review of the literature, exploratory and qualitative approach, using the descriptors: nursing care, professional autonomy, injuries and injuries and nursing, available in Portuguese and published in the years 2008 to 2018. RESULTS: The nurse needs a theoretical knowledge based on evidence for a quality practice, the same is influenced by external factors, such as the interference of others in their decisions and the dependence of others to perform some activity, which makes it difficult for them to act with autonomy. CONCLUSION: The quest for autonomy must be sustained by a scientifically grounded practice. The Systematization of Nursing Assistance (SAE) is a specific assignment of the nurse, sustaining an autonomous practice providing greater visibility to her workAcesso AbertoCuidados de enfermagemAutonomia profissionalFerimentos e lesõesEnfermagemNursing CareProfessional autonomyWounds and injuriesNursingAutonomia do enfermeiro no tratamento de feridas crônicas no âmbito hospitalar: uma revisão integrativaTrabalho de Conclusão de CursoCiências da Saúde
