Non-pharmacological methods may be administered during labor in order to control pain and not harm mother and fetus. Objective: To know the importance of non-pharmacological methods for the relief of pain in women during labor. Methodology: This is a literature review of the integrative type, carried out by means of a bibliographic survey in the databases SciELO and Google Scholar in the period from 2005 to 2018. We selected 13 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, bringing good results in the practice of non-pharmacological methods for the relief of parturient pain. Results: Based on the analysis of the articles, the following categories were constructed: Importance of non-pharmacological methods for the relief of pain during labor; Effects of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief on labor and Obstetric nurse performance in normal childbirth care. Final considerations: Non-pharmacological methods of pain relief during labor provide comfort, well-being, active participation of pregnant women, and progression of labor.
