    The frequency and severity of health care damage are increasing. Faced with this, there is a global movement aiming at patient safety. An adverse event (AE) includes any unfavorable sings affecting patients during health care and unintended signals. OBJECTIVE: To analyse the importance of notify the adverse events related to health care assistance in an accredited hospital. METHODS: It is a study of literature review of the integrative type that has broad character. The data were selected based on the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Electronic Publishing System (SEER), Virtual Health Library (VHL), and selected nine articles for the final sample. RESULTS: The notification of adverse event is still of paramount importance. EAs affect on average 10% of hospital admissions and represent one of the greatest challenges to quality in health care, reflecting the gap between optimal care and real care. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: So, it is necessary to understand the importance of the notification, to assure quality assistance to the patient with minimization of errors, since it is clear that most cases of adverse events occur during health care
