Corneal transplantation is the safest and most common.The cornea is a clear lens attached to the front of the eyes that when it loses its luster and becomes tarnished is an indication for transplantation.Objectives: To analyze the importance of nurses in the process of donating organs and tissues;To explain nurses' responsibilities from the potential donor to the donation; To present the ethical and legal position of nurses in regard to corneal donation;To identify the nurse's role in enucleation,preservation and release of the cornea for transplantation. Methodology:This article is an integrative review of literature by combining the descriptors: Nurse, Corneal Transplantation,Enucleation crosses in Boolean operators and selected through a clipping in Portuguese language.Results:The studies show that the nurse is indispensable for effecting a corneal donation, since it is involved in every process from the existence of a potential donor to an effective donor, achieving in a sensible way a donation.Final considerations:The elaboration of this research has made it possible to clarify the importance of the nurse in the enucleation and preservation of the cornea for transplantation, and these need to be dedicated by acting explicitly and humanly in order to save lives, since it intervenes in every process from the family interview to the release of the ocular tissues obtaining positive results and ensuring a viable transplant for waiting queue reduction
