Its general objective was to analyze the impact of the optional payment of union dues on the collective representation of trade workers in Salvador / BA, brought about with a 2017 Labor Reform. This reform brought about a change in the form of payment of union dues by the worker. This research is disabled as qualitative and exploratory. Initially, data was collected on scientific search platform for theoretical foundation, as well as a search on official websites of the Ministry of Labor and unions. Data were also collected in semi-structured unrelated workers with union representatives of Salvador trade workers and the application of structured questionnaires with Salvador trade workers. A data analysis was performed to provide opportunities for debates and reflections relevant to the topic at hand. From the research carried out, it became clear that unions act as an intermediary between capital and labor and have constitutional importance as an institution that protects workers' rights. It was also found that the 2017 labor reform had consequences for collective representation of workers, as the main source of funding for the union has always been the union contribution and with the reform, payment became optional, raising unions to a deficit in your monthly income. On the other hand, there are no effective policies to encourage membership promoted by the union, which weakens the union and fights for the fulfillment of its functions as a representative of the collective, which leads to a reflection on the urgency of measures and coordination to ensure the unions more affiliations and, consequently, more revenue so that the search for improvements is achieved.
