    The identification process is of paramount importance for ensuring legal certainty. Therefore, the present work aims to analyze the importance of civil identification in the State of Bahia from the detailed analysis of fingerprints. We will try to show how the civil identification is of extreme relevance for the recognition of the people and its effectiveness as means of proof or for judicial purposes. We will make a contextualization about the Legal Medicine and its various branches, until getting to the dytoscopy. It is known that fingerprints identify the human being and make it unique.
