Objective: To review in the literature the factors that lead other family members to care for children with disabilities. Material and Method: This is a study of Narrative Literature Review. We found 42 articles, published between the years 2009-2019, that fulfilled the inclusion criteria and all were selected for reading. Results: 8 articles were left to compose this literature review. Final considerations: Studies have shown great participation of grandmothers in the care of their grandchildren with disabilities, either as primary or auxiliary caregivers. It is necessary to clarify with new studies, directed to the grandmothers, that approach on the factors that take the care of the disabled child by other people of the family, and by who is not familiar.
