Firstly, considerations were made about the need of analysis the accomplished advances due to the application of quotas legislation, passing to describe brazilian laws that aims a bigger female partcipation in elective politcal offices, and then to discuss, starting at the most recent composition of the Chamber of Deputies, in what way the female participation is growing or not in conection with the laws mentioned above. Through bibliographic review and document analysis, it was sought to avaluate the extent of social structures influences in the efectiveness of dispositives that aims a bigger political participation of women, in the path to reach gender equality, since the mere criation of laws isn't enough to change the reality, with deeper socio-cultural changes being necessary.
