Palliative Care is a modality of care that, faced with the impossibility of cure, aims to relieve pain in all its dimensions, contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly person in the face of the terminality of life. Objective: To understand the role of the nurse in palliative care. Method: This is an integrative review of the literature using the descriptors: Palliative Care, Elderly Health and Nursing Care. Results: Among the contributions of the nurse to the palliative care of the elderly, care with families is highlighted, as well as the need for educational actions with the family and the permanent education of the nurses involved in this process, with integrality as a fundamental aspect for the effectiveness of the palliative care for this population.
