Abstract

Parkinson's disease (PD) causes several problems of mobility, results of motor alterations, which in turn, are difficult to treat and generate significant functional decline. The increasing use of motor imagery has aroused interest in the academic community, since it is associated with satisfactory results in functional recovery in individuals with neurological diseases. Thus, the objective of this study is to perform a literature review of the integrative type, about the influence of motor imagery on the functionality of individuals with PD. The methodology of this study included a survey of articles in the Oxford, Medline, PubMed and Cochrane databases, using combinations of the following descriptors: imagination AND Parkinson's disease AND rehabilitation or imagination AND Parkinson's Disease AND rehabilitation. To analyze the methodological quality, the following instruments were used: The Critical Appraisal Skill Program (CASP) and the Agency for Healthcare and Research and Quality (AHRQ). The results included a total of 341 studies, and from the inclusion criteria, six articles were selected in this review. This study allowed us to conclude that, in general, motor imagery proved to be effective, presenting a satisfactory effect for reducing bradykinesia, improving mobility and walking speed of patients, besides contributing to the establishment of a clearer and more accurate body layout.
