Item Consumo de alimentos em sacarose entre crianças e adolescentes com anemia falciforme: um estudo transversal(Universidade Católica do Salvador, 2019-06-07) Bahia, Francine Coutinho; Albuquerque, Carolina Alves Rolim de; lattes.cnpq.br; Melo, Daniela Santos; lattes.cnpq.br; Melo, Daniela Santos; lattes.cnpq.br; Trindade, Geiza Santana Neri; lattes.cnpq.br; Menenses, Gisele Barreto Lopes; lattes.cnpq.brTo investigate the consumption of some sucrose-rich foods among children and adolescents with sickle-cell anemia attending a referral health unit in Salvador-BA. Methods: The sucrose consumption data were collected through the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ). The frequency of consumption was stratified into: (a) Never/rare; (b) 1 to 3 times/month; (c) once a week; (d) 2 to 4 times a week; (e) 4 or more times in the week. The data were analyzed through spreadsheets and graphs of the program Microsoft Office Excel ® 2007. Results: Of the children and adolescents evaluated, 85% reported consuming bullet, chewing gum, lollipop and jujube, 30% chocolate in bar, 71% traditional refrigerante, 59% artificial refreshment, artificial juice 45%, and stuffed biscuit 64%. In the evaluation of the frequency of consumption by children and adolescents, the majority reported consumption as "never/rare", for bar chocolate 69,0% (n=29/42) and artificial juice 54,7% (n=23/42). Consumption of 2 to 4 times in the week of bullet, chewing gum, lollipop and jujube was 28,5% (n=12/42), traditional refrigerant of 23,8% (n=10/42), artificial refreshment 21,4% (n=9/42), and stuffed biscuit 28,5% (n=12/42). Conclusion: In general, children and adolescents with sickle cell anemia consume foods rich in sucrose, making this population more susceptible to the development of insulin resistance and metabolic complications.Item Influência das alterações de deglutição no estado nutricional de indivíduos idosos em um abrigo de Salvador - Bahia: um estudo transversal(Universidade Católica do Salvador, 2018-12-10) Santos, Denise Terezinha Santana; Santos, Denise Terezinha Santana; Albuquerque, Carolina Alves Rolim de; lattes.cnpq.br; Leite, Catarina Lima; lattes.cnpq.br; Albuquerque, Carolina Alves Rolim de; lattes.cnpq.br; Perdigão, Maria das Graças; lattes.cnpq.brThe elderly due to changes in physiology and neurological and degenerative disorders often present swallowing changes, with a significant impairment of their nutritional status, leading to an increased risk of severe malnutrition. Objectives: To know the nutritional status and risk of developing malnutrition and to identify the prevalence of signs and symptoms of swallowing changes reported by elderly residents. Method: A cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive study on changes in swallowing. The sample studied was of convenience, represented by 14 individuals in a long-term institution located in a neighborhood in the city of Salvador, Bahia. To identify the signs of swallowing changes, the Eating Assessment Tool swallowing complaints questionnaire was applied and a nutritional risk screening was applied to the Mini Nutritional Assessment. The results were collected between February and August of 2018. Results: On the nutritional status of the institutionalized elderly, a majority of the 57.1% (8/14) were eutrophic, between the sexes, it was found that the men presented greater eutrophy than the women. Regarding swallowing complaints the results showed that 42.9% of the individuals evaluated had swallowing problems, 57.1% of the participants had no swallowing changes. In the sample studied, no patient had severe swallowing complications. Conclusion: Intervention in long-term care homes is essential because of the high number of institutionalized elderly people, presenting swallowing difficulties. It is necessary the presence of a multiprofessional team to evaluate each individual, in order to minimize the impacts of this clinical condition on the nutritional status of these elderly individuals.Item Perfil antropométrico de pessoas com HAM/TSP: estudo transversal(Universidade Católica do Salvador, 2018-12-10) Silva, Sandra Reis da; Fonseca, Erika Pedreira da; lattes.cnpq.br; Fonseca, Erika Pedreira da; lattes.cnpq.br; Albuquerque, Carolina Alves Rolim de; lattes.cnpq.br; Trindade, Geiza Santana Neri; lattes.cnpq.brMyelopathy associated with HTLV-1 / tropical spastic paraesthesia HAM / TSP, characterized as a demyelinating, inflammatory and progressive central nervous system (CNS) disease, leading to a gait impairment in the lower limbs, hindering the locomotion of these individuals. This study aims to characterize the anthropometric profile of people with HAM / TSP. Methodology: A cross-sectional study where patients with a probable or defined HAM / TSP diagnosis according to World Health Organization (WHO) standards were treated at a referral unit in the city of Salvador. Sixteen patients of both sexes were evaluated, where they signed the free and informed consent form. A socio-demographic questionnaire and anthropometric data were collected. Results: It was observed that 62.5% of the participants were female and aged between 32 and 64 years, mean age was 53 years, as for marital status, 50% were married. It evidenced the presence of overweight in both sex and of obesity only among women. Presence of risk for metabolic complications was observed in 60% of the women according to the waist circumference and an accumulation of fat in the neck region in both sex, being 50% female and 83.5% in the masculine. Conclusion: Individuals with HAM / TSP were overweight and at risk for the onset of metabolic complications. In view of the results presented here, it opens the door to the emergence of new studies related to the anthropometric parameters, thus collaborating to broaden the knowledge of this health condition.
