    This article seeks to objectively address the legal institute of parenting and the duties of parents, filial paternal abandonment, and its types, namely moral, intellectual and material paternal abandonment, with an emphasis on material paternal abandonment, and its consequences for the child's life. In addition, it is proposed to point out the reflex damage to the life of the single mother, as well as the possibility of civil liability for property and off-balance sheet damage caused, so that it becomes feasible to make a correlation between Family Law and Civil Liability, applying thus the liability for material abandonment.
