Abstract

To identify scientific evidence on the characteristics of congenital syphilis, highlighting the importance of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of the disease. Method: This is a literature review, in qualitative approach. A total of 466 articles were selected, of which 12 were included; With axis in the results and conclusions obtained in the studies published between 2000 and 2016, and selected the Descriptors of Health Sciences (DeCS): Congenital syphilis, syphilis, vertical transmission. Results: The clinical manifestations of this pathology may be absent at birth and may occur after days, months or years. As a compulsory notification disease registered in the SINAN reporting system there are flaws in the follow-up program for pregnant women, resulting in the control of syphilis vertical transmission, children with congenital syphilis require orderly procedures, adequate care and surveillance for monitoring And disease control, training and professional awareness for health information. Conclusion: In the light of the above, this study aimed to analyze the consequences of this pathology, ascertaining the reasons that lead to coping with syphilis vertical transmission. As a consequence, rapid examination for the diagnosis of syphilis allows treatment to begin earlier and may reduce the incidence of congenital infection.
