Abstract
The present article seeks to analyze the legal and institutional measures
adopted to combat violence against women in the context of a pandemic, considering
the protective structure already structured in the Maria da Penha Law. The social
isolation adopted as a primary measure to prevent the contagion of COVID-19 brings
to the surface alarming indications about domestic violence against women.
Individuals around the world needed to stay in their homes to contain the coronavirus
pandemic. However, for some individuals, their home is not a safe environment. Women who suffer domestic violence are now stuck at home with their attackers.
Considering the reality of domestic violence against women in Brazil and data on the
increase in the number of cases of domestic violence in Brazil during the pandemic,
we sought to survey the measures and legal instruments used to confront this reality
in the face of the pandemic context. However, despite some measures implemented
based on the existing structure, it is observed that there are limitations in the creation
of public policies in conjunction with the assistance measures provided for in the
Maria da Penha Law. During the preparation of the article, bibliographic searches
and documentary analysis of reports issued in the context of a pandemic on domestic
violence against women were carried out.
