Abstract
Nursing appears as a differential in the provision of care for waste from health
services, from management to ensuring the preservation of workers' health and public health.
Objective: To analyze through the literature the role of nursing in the management of waste
from health services. Method: This is a Narrative Literature Review. The databases used in this
study were articles published in the Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health
Sciences (LILACS) Medical LiteratureAnalysisandRetrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and
Nursing Database (BDENF). Results In most studies, the results point to a low applicability of
the management and practice of waste management correctly in the units that provide health
services, so that it can maintain an effective waste management, it is necessary that the health
units train your employees, promoting training based on continuing education, and this practice
is the scientific basis for the development of professionals present in the work
environment.Conclusion: Health professionals understand that they are strong generators of
waste, but that they are a key part to ensure better management of waste generated at all levels
of care, so it is necessary that these issues are always reinforced in health units, to there is the
progressive growth of trained professionals, to deal with this problem.
