Abstract

The objective of this study was to describe the repercussion of the use of psychoactive substances in people in the process of aging. The subjects of the research come from the metropolitan region of Salvador-Ba. In order to carry out this research in CAPS, we opted for descriptive and exploratory qualitative research. To generate the data, we used systematic observation and semi-structured interviews. And to analyze the data generated during the research was the content analysis. As a result, it was found that most of the participants made negative associations to the aging process. Most respondents are alcoholic and a small percentage use or have already used multiple drugs. It was also verified that some subjects of this investigation initiated the use of alcohol and other drugs in childhood and this abusive use accentuated itself in the adult age from the 50 years of age. It was evidenced that the psychoactive substance most used by the participants of this research is alcohol. It is believed that this phenomenon happens to be one of the most accessible licit drugs. It is concluded that several factors can contribute what the abuse of alcohol and other drugs, such as the spacing of family ties, loss of purchasing power and prejudice, among others. It is hoped that the results of this study will contribute to the improvement of the Public Policies of Alcohol and other Drugs and to reduce the consumption of psychoactive substances.
