Abstract
This article aims to discuss the deaths resulting from police intervention in the State of Bahia. Part of the following research question: Do the deaths caused by police intervention in Bahia make the State an agent of violence? In addition to being current, this work is justified by contributing to discussions about how much the State, which should combat violence, ends up going beyond the limits of the monopoly of force, being one of the points that also generate violence. The methodology used has a qualitative and structured nature on bibliographical review and analysis of documents on the legislation on State action in the fight against violence from the Police, in addition to the public data about police violence produced at national level, as well as a brief study of a case on the slaughter of the Cabula of 2015. Violent intervention has marked the work of the Bahian police, which has been the object of national and international criticism regarding the degree of arbitrariness and selectivity over black, poor and peripheral populations.
