Abstract
Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive and fatal
neurodegenerative disorder that manifests itself in cognitive and memory
impairment. AD is considered a family disease, to which its primary caregivers
are exclusively dedicated. Objective: Describe, from evidence data in the
literature, how families experience the routine of care and attention to elderly
family members with Alzheimer's disease. Method: This is an integrative review
of a qualitative approach. Twelve scientific articles were selected from the
Lilacs, BDENF, Medline and Scielo databases. Results: The study was carried
out in articles that approach the theme, published between 2013 and 2020, with
national and international publications of descriptive, qualitative, comparative
and cross-sectional studies. Conclusion: The overload present in the care of
elderly people with AD can be mitigated through the implementation of care
strategies for caregivers.
