Abstract
This study discusses the contributions of social participation in the process of territorial development at the local level, with emphasis on processo redevelopment of St Bartholomew Park, as an analytical reference the minutes of the meetings of the Management Board of Apa River Basin Copper / São Bartolomeu the period of 2008-2014, and highlighting the contribution of Community representations of the board members. Proposes understand, discuss and reflect about the theoretical concepts of social participation and its relevance to the development process of the communities surrounding the São Bartolomeu Park, where there are a number of historical and complex environmental issues which require reflection, study and critical evaluation order to understand the scale of a whole site as a reflection of a global world. It is the result of studies conducted over the academic Master of the Program in Territorial and Social Development Planning, Catholic University of Salvador, UCSAL. It brings important elements that contribute to the understanding of the issues at hand and its size at present, considering the current civilizational crisis. We used some theoretical frameworks recommended throughout the construction of the research project, which gave grant to the foundation and systematization of this study, with the research methodology, content analysis of the minutes of regular and special meetings of the Council Manager of Apa Basin Copper / St. Bartholomew, the St. Bartholomew Park Management Plan, and as a methodological procedure, the collection of information obtained from the representatives of government agencies involved in the rehabilitation process of São Bartolomeu Park. It was concluded from the verbalizations of the community representatives recorded in the minutes of management meetings, that their participation is quite significant in terms of their positioning, discussions, opinions and referrals to social and environmental issues with governmental bodies, some of them also members of the board, such as CONDER, SEDUR and INEMA, among others.
