Abstract

Technologies have a direct and indirect impact on social relationships, customs, economic development, family relationships and, especially, on science. It happens that in the legal sciences the reflexes of the changes that occurred in societies and in their customs are reflected in legislative, jurisprudential and doctrinal changes. Thus, with the advent of bitcoin, as well as revolutionary new concepts and technologies that include cryptocurrency, institutions, especially governmental ones, can use blockchain technology to provide guarantees of reliability, security, privacy, accessibility and transparency. And this ability to take advantage of new technologies has allowed the insurance industry, as well as all other sectors and the general public, to be influenced by the development of digital technologies. It can be said that the technology offers opportunities to increase efficiency, enabling greater automation of the insurance underwriting process through smart contracts. And the use of this technology, Smart Contract, confirms tremendous progress in the field of civil law that deals with contracts in their various phases. It is intended to present some of the main characteristics of the Smart Contract, and the possibilities and challenges in insurance contracts.
