Abstract

The national mental health policy emphasizes that psychiatric care is included in the Basic Attention (AB) routine. Fundamental to consolidating this policy is health education and articulation with the Psychosocial Care Centers (CAPS). In this context, there should be an insertion of the user and his family into the system, facilitating their re-socialization and providing a better quality of life. Objective: To identify the barriers evidenced by primary health care professionals in the recognition of people with mental disorders and in the referral to the Psychosocial Care Centers. Method: Refers to a field research with qualitative approach and descriptive character, aiming to verify the assumptions that generate obstacles in the care of people with mental disorders. Held in a Basic Health Unit, whose model of care is characterized by being a mixed health unit, attending to several health programs, located in the City Center of Salvador, Bahia. Results: Four thematic categories were identified: Stereotyping of the person with mental disorder; The professional's view on Institutionalization; Lack of integrality in the service to the user; Absence of training programs. Final Consideration: One of the evidenced facts was the lack of organization of the work process, being notorious the predominance of a stereotyped vision of the person with psychic disorder, the lack of integrality in the attendance, the absence of training projects in this area and a contradictory view about institutionalization.
