Abstract
Introduction: Due to population aging and population age inversion, there was an increase in
the interest and structuring of policies that enable the care of elderly people. Therefore, caring
for the elderly is challenging and requires knowledge, especially due to basic health needs.
Objective: to analyze the strategies used by primary care to promote healthy aging.
Methodology: Integrative literature review, in which the collection of articles was carried out
between August and September 2021, whose databases were: Latin American and Caribbean
Literature in Health Sciences (Lilacs), the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System
Online (Medline) and the Database in Nursing (BDENF). In this context, the inclusion criteria
were as follows: original articles, available in full and free of charge, with publications
ranging from 2016 to 2021. With regard to the exclusion criterion, articles that did not include
the corpus were chosen from the corpus. proposed theme and those that were duplicated.
Results: 07 studies were used for comparative research on the subject. Thus, primary care
works to promote health through the assessment and monitoring of social contexts (domestic
and family environment), psychological context (mental health and cognition), physical
context (NCD, disease prevention and vaccination) and even guidance regarding to the habits
of life. Final Considerations: Despite being challenging, primary care plays an extremely
important role in the quality of life of the elderly, and not only the nursing team, but the entire
multidisciplinary team, however, they need to know and act in their roles in relation to elderly
needs
