Abstract
Adenium obesum desert rose is a plant native to Africa, but has been gaining ground in many parts of the world. His search has been for examples of seeds, which form great sculptures when reaching adulthood, in addition to reaching high values in the market, causing producers to seek more and more information about the desert rose. There are currently few studies related to germination mechanisms and requirements of this species. This study aims to analyze the influence of calcium nitrate on the germination of desert rose seeds A. obesum. For the accomplishment of this work, the germination of the seeds in different concentrations of calcium nitrate (concentration 400 ml / liter) in the treatments was carried out in order to ascertain which results would be more efficient for the germinative process. The total germination, germination speed coefficient, seedling vigor, root length and seedlings were evaluated. At the end of 10 days the germination of 18 seeds (immersed in calcium nitrate) and 18 seeds (control group) can be noted. The total germination presented a 90% rate, and by the CVG test, the germination speed of the seeds was similar.
The seeds were considered vigorous, but the calcium nitrate dosage may have been very high, slowing the development of desert rose seedlings
