Introduction: Infant mortality is an indicator of great relevance in the analysis of population health. Brazil showed a substantial improvement in the infant mortality rate due to efforts at the national level, such as vaccination and access to primary health care, but the Northeast region continues to rank second in the ranking of the highest rates in the country. Objective: To describe the profile of infant mortality in the city of Salvador, Bahia, from 2009 to 2018. Methodology: An ecological, descriptive and exploratory study based on secondary data obtained through the Mortality Information System (SIM) on all deaths aged < 1 year that occurred in the city of Salvador, Bahia. The variables studied were sex, color/race, mother's age, mother's education, duration of pregnancy, type of delivery, type of pregnancy, birth weight and place of birth. Results: The Infant Mortality Coefficient in the city of Salvador was 16 /1,000 LB, the Neonatal Mortality Coefficient was 9.2/1,000 LB, the Late Neonatal Mortality Coefficient was 2.5/1,000 LB and the Post Mortality Coefficient Neonatal was 4.3/1,000 NV. Final Considerations: The combination of PHC actions with current government policies can strengthen the supply of health services with a focus on improving strategies for adherence to prenatal care, vaccination and comprehensive child care.

Introduction: The health of women and children has become a concern around the world. In developing countries such as Brazil, maternal and child morbidity and mortality mostly occur for causes that could be avoided, so it is necessary to create interventions and draw plans to reduce these rates, ensuring a better quality of life for this population. Objective: To analyze, based on literature evidence, the actions of primary health care services (PHC) to reduce infant and maternal morbidity and mortality rates, and strategies to prevent early weaning during the puerperium. Method: This is an integrative review using LILACS, MEDLINE and the Virtual Public Health Field databases, available on the Virtual Health Library platform. For this purpose, the following descriptors were used: infant mortality; maternal mortality; primary health care. Results: For the puerperium to be a calmer period and to bring well being to the mother and the baby, it is necessary to have a quality prenatal care, with qualified professionals and a multidisciplinary team, so that the risks are minimized and\ or detected in advance and a care plan is drawn up to ensure safe and quality pregnancy, delivery and puerperium. Conclusion: The actions of PHC services aimed at women's health must be based on an effective, humane and quality approach, which respects the subjectivity of these women and offers comprehensive and multidisciplinary care, thus reducing maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates.

Beaches are dynamic systems where elements such as wind, water, currents, waves, tides and sand interact in complex hydrodynamic and depositional processes. Among the animals that inhabit this ecosystem, crabs of the genus Ocypode are among the most noticed. The Ocypode quadrata crab occurs throughout the entire Brazilian coast, being restricted to the West Atlantic coast, being the only representative of the Ocypode genus on the Brazilian coast, having as habitat from the intertidal zone to the dunes of the sandy beaches. This study aimed to characterize the population structure and distribution in the beach area of the O. quadrata crab on the beach of Stella Maris in Salvador Bahia. Sampling was carried out on August 1, 2020 during the daytime, during low tide at Stella Maris beach, Salvador, Bahia. On the beach, three transects perpendicular to the water line were set up in each of the regions (anthropized and non-anthropized). Throughout each transect, all holes with marks of use were counted and measured as to the diameter of their opening. A difference in the number of burrows was observed between the transects of the “Non-anthropized” and “Anthropized” regions, with the transects with the largest number of burrows in the “Anthropized” region. In general, the largest burrows were in the “Non-Anthropized” region, suggesting that organisms with a larger body size are also in this region. For both the “Anthropized” and “Non-Anthropized” regions, the largest burrows were located in the upper zones of the intertidal and in the supralittoral, suggesting a stratification related to the body size of the organisms with smaller organisms inhabiting the humid regions of the intertidal.

Among popular understanding, snakes are mystical beings, surrounded by distorted beliefs and views about their ecological relevance. Despite its importance, the common perception most of the times is that snakes always represent a threat. In this context, the present study aimed to investigate the perception of the inhabitants of the Massarandupió-BA Community, about snakes, seeking to understand the relationship that these people have with these animals. Data were collected from September to November 2020, through semi-structured interviews, conducted with 20 residents, 15 women and 5 men. It was found that these animals are still negatively present in the minds of most respondentes. However, the relationship between them was not so conflicted, given the fact that snakes are not killed by the majority. However, the infinity of myths and legends that are built around snakes, can contribute to a rooted culture that these animals always represent a threat to humans, which can lead to indiscriminate attack on species. And although most respondents are aware that the preservation of snakes is important, many are still unaware of the ecological role they play in nature. Thus, works that focus on environmental education regarding the biology and importance of snakes become essential, which can be an important tool to disseminate correct information about this group. Therefore, it is hoped that the information obtained will serve as indicators to create awareness and conservation strategies with communities.

Castor bean (Ricinus communis L.) is a crop of great potential for the region of Irecê - Bahia, which has favorable soil and climate conditions for its planting and has been standing out as an important alternative for the development of family agriculture in the region. However, the quality of castor bean seeds can be affected by several factors during the production process. In this context, the objective of this study was to analyze the main techniques for planting and storing castor oil seeds used by family farmers in the region of Irecê - Bahia, and to identify possible obstacles in production, relating them to the existing technical knowledge. For data collection, 10 farmers were interviewed between October and November 2019 through a semistructured questionnaire on castor bean cultivation techniques. It was noted that farmers commonly face difficulties in producing and draining production. Irregular and scarce rainfall, the use of low quality seeds, insufficient labor, compacted soil, pests, and lack of support and financing have been the main obstacles to production. That said, it is necessary to seek measures to eliminate or mitigate these failures, such as new projects for the construction of UTD, distribution of certified seeds, intensification of technology, adding producers to cooperatives, support from managers and incentives to producers; so that the social objectives of increasing castor bean production in the best quality standard and consequently, income generation in the region are achieved.

Falconry has been practiced by mankind for many years throughout history, including birds that can capture prey through specific techniques of killing in the air or on land. In Brazil this activity has been growing gradually over the years, thus bringing relevance to the conservation of birds of prey present in our country. This article brings us a quantitative and qualitative research of birds used by falconry companies in the national territory, seeking to identify the relevance and the reason why certain species are present so often and in quantity in most of these institutions. Parabuteo unicinctus stands out among the marked birds and the main reason for this highlight is its behavioral and social characteristics.

One of the biggest problems faced by the original natural areas is the disordered population growth, which advances on the native vegetation, increasingly surrounding and making cuts in its interior, leading to the loss of its biodiversity. These areas, even separated from their original matrix, continue to provide diverse ecosystem services to humans and provide shelter for wildlife. Bats, although little studied in urban environments, have the facility to adapt to modified environments end up using these cutouts and sharing space with man. Among the various environmental services, chiropractors act as pollinators, agricultural pest controllers, dispersal of pioneer seeds essential for the regeneration of degraded areas, transmission of zoonoses and excellent indicators of environmental quality. This study aimed to investigate the richness of bat species that live in Busca Vida, a remnant of restinga forest in Camaçari - BA. The survey was conducted during the months of (March to September) through the use of fog nets at different points during three nights. Five species and 43 specimens belonging to the family Phyllostomidae were found. The predominant species in all points was Artibeus planirostris with 28 individuals, and Carollia perspicillata with 9 individuals showing the importance of this area for maintenance and conservation. The low number of species found in the study area may be related to effort in only one season, suggesting the use of other sampling methods, increased sampling effort and exploitation of other seasons.
