Abstract

The present study seeks to awaken perceptions about the importance of preservation and conservation of the mangrove ecosystem and the close relationship between the natural elements that composes this ecosystem and the survivor of millions of people on the planet, highliting the traditional community that resides in the locality of this study, the island of Paty, located in the municipality of São Francisco do Conde in State of Bahia. They have as main objective to associate the socio-economic and artistic context of the Paparutas cultural group composed of fisherwoman from Island of Paty, to the environmental conservation of the island’s mangrove, since they use they fruits as a source of food, income generation and also include them as a central element of the cultural manifestation they participate in. The study brings the Paparutas cultural manifestation to the center of the educational proposal on mangroves, believing that they artistic presentations can constitute a differentiated educational path, fomenting reflections on the environment responsibility of the society in relation to the mangroves in a ludic and comprehensive way. This work presents an approach within the exploratory line, and from this perspective, was used as instruments of information collection: bibliographic collection, documentary research, field research, conversation wheels and semi-structured interviews (involving the fisherwoman paparutas of Paty). It was observed from the listening of the interviewees that they considered the conservation of the mangroves to be fundamental and were unanimous in affirming that it’s up to each one of them the main responsibility for taking care of the ecosystem in the area. In this sense, the research recommends, that the cultural group Paparutas can adapt in a collaborative way in their presentations, some calls that provoke the sensibilization of the present public, for the environmental conservation of the mangrove. The study also adds the production of a video type short film, presenting nuances of the mangrove ecosystem, fisherwoman routine, and the presentation of the Paparutas, with the intention of using it as an educational resource to several public in different spaces.
