Abstract

In the context of pregnancy, the use and dependence of psychoactive substances during the gestation period can have potentially serious physical consequences for both the mother and the fetus, becoming a serious public health problem. Objective: to analyze the complications caused to the neonate of women who use drugs during the gestational period. Methodology: The study was carried out by means of a bibliographical survey in the VHL (Virtual Health Library) database, Medline (Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences), SciELO (Scientific Eletronic Library Online) o manual search in the references of articles published in the period from 2001 to 2016. Results: Maternal and perinatal complications due to drug exposure; Importance of multiprofessional team with pregnant women using psychoactive substances. Final considerations: Gestational drug use can lead to complications for both the pregnant woman and the fetus, and a prior diagnosis must be made during the prenatal visit. These complications bring mostly irreversible data and the number of women who have been using these substances in the gestational period has increased in large proportions
