Abstract

Immunization in Brazil represents one of the greatest advances and achievements in the area of health surveillance. It is estimated that two to three million deaths are prevented each year and immunization is responsible for this success, we can be proud because we eradicated or controlled in the world diseases that decimated millions of people, like smallpox. Objective: To analyze the vaccination condition and the factors related to the incomplete basic vaccination scheme of children under five years of a Family Health Strategy Unit. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study. For the definition of the sample, the convenience method was used with children under five years of age who sought the health service for vaccination between March and April 2019. A questionnaire for those responsible and analyzed the vaccination card of 100 children, taking as inclusion criteria children under five years old with a vaccination card, and exclusion, those older than five years in the absence of the vaccination card and not authorized by the person responsible. Results: Of the 100 child vaccination books evaluated, 28% of the children were delayed in vaccination and 76% had a history of delayed vaccine. The relationship between vaccine delay, low income and color or black race was verified. Social programs do not influence the reduction of vaccine delay. Final considerations: vaccine coverage has important fragilities that can generate pockets of susceptibility and reintroduction of diseases, and it is up to management and society to find plausible solutions to the problems
