Abstract
Society is currently experiencing the age of consumption. Consumption invades the
entire life of the human being, combining all the activities of modern man in a
constant and dynamic network. Constant because man becomes a consumer in the
various aspects of his daily life. Dynamic because consumption becomes a vicious
circle in human life, either by the desire created by abundance or by fads, or because
objects become obsolete quickly, forcing man to adapt to the novelties of the market.
After a brief analysis of the consumer society and the current contract conception, it
is tried to demonstrate that the current Brazilian legislation that disciplines credit
agreements does not follow the reality of the consumer society and the necessary
consumer protection of credit, in order to ensure the effectiveness of constitutional
principles and avoid over-indebtedness. Consumption then becomes the mirror of
human happiness, the attempt to fill the existential emptiness of man, becoming the
meaning of his life, the reason for his work, his greatest goal. From this literary
review, in the future, it is possible to propose solutions that fit the legal and economic context of the Brazilian population, especially in the current era of political and
economic instability.
