Abstract

The purpose of this article is the historical analysis of violence against women, demonstrated in the face of inequality and discrimination in relation to gender relations. As a consequence of a historically macho and patriarchal society, various human rights have been omitted from women, which have been achieved through constant struggle. In view of the above, this article will analyze the origin of the patriarchalism where women are considered the fragile sex and the man the provider of the home, besides studying the great conquest of women, before the creation of the Maria da Penha Law, which created mechanisms for prevention and punishment of violence against women and the insertion of feminicide, the last stage of violence against women, in the Brazilian penal system, which assigns a more severe punishment to those who comment on homicide against women on grounds of gender, criminal and social proceedings before Brazilian society.
