Abstract
Pregnancy is an event of great significance in the life of women permeated by values and transformations, in this way, educational actions in prenatal care have become of fundamental importance. OBJECTIVE: GENERAL - To analyze the importance of educational actions in prenatal care. SPECIFIC: identify the educational actions performed by the prenatal care team, and understand the pregnant women's perception of educational actions in prenatal care. METHODOLOGY: This study deals with a descriptive narrative review with a qualitative approach, elaborated through the Virtual
Health Library (VHL) database, Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE); Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS); Scientific Eletronic Library OnLine (SCIELO); Nursing Database (BDENF). Eleven articles in the Portuguese language published in the period 2007-2015 are used. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The actions performed by the nurse should focus on the biopsychosocial and emotional aspects related to prenatal care that were characterized by the reception and educational actions, as well as the aspects maternal and fetal health promotion. The pregnant women recognize the importance of prenatal educational activities in relation to the preparation for childbirth and the care of the newborn. CONCLUSION: It is suggested the increase of updates and courses of permanent training of nurses in the scope of health education actions that take into account the specific needs of pregnant women with the purpose of a better quality of the gestational process.
