Abstract
Objectives: to understand the person's perception of stoma about their sexuality as well as the impact of the stoma on their sexuality. Method: This is a qualitative descriptive study, with eight ostomized adult participants, who were interviewed in depth with the application of a semi-structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed according to Bardin reference, categorical type, the exploration of the material and interpretation of the data led to the establishment of the following subjects: Socioeconomic, demographic and clinical aspects of the participants ; perception of sexuality about the stoma; impact of ostomy on sexuality. Results: ostomized patients understand the stoma perception about their sexuality, both related to the sexual act and in a broader way. The impacts of sexuality were: body perception, impact on the sexual act, loss of libido. Conclusions: The findings showed that ostomized patients have their perception of affected sexuality and that it should be improved, as well as the impacts related to sexuality are merely related to distortion of body image and, sometimes, due to physiological dysfunction, such as loss of libido and impotence
