Abstract

Introduction: The challenge in meeting the deaf user in health services is characterized by the communication barrier; due to lack of preparation of health professionals. Despite the existence of public policies planned by the health services, the tools used to make communication feasible are usually parts of individual professionals' initiatives. What continues being a barrier for deaf people. Objective: aims to identify the challenges faced by people who suffer from depression when they seek care in health services and analyze the reasons that lead them. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature. 326 publications were located, the titles and abstracts were read with the purpose of refining. We excluded 276 articles because they did not meet the criteria for inclusion or because they were duplicated. A total of 22 papers were read. After exhaustive reading, the final sample consisted of 8 articles. . Results: From the evaluation of these studies the two categories emerged: Communication barrier versus Accessibility and Indicators for improvement in the access of the deaf in the health services. Final considerations: It was possible to perceive that care for the deaf in public health is in the process of being built and still presents serious deficiencies. Thus, to remedy the existing difficulties it is necessary the presence of accompanying or prepared interpreters who are at the disposal of the service and the inclusion of a course of LIBRAS and of disciplines that address the aspects of the communication with the deaf in the academic curriculum of the graduations of the health area
